Adonis aestivalis, Summer pheasant’s eye, belonging to the family of Ranuncolaceae, is an herbaceous perennial plant adorned by bright red-scarlet corolla with a dark centre in each petal.

All parts of Summer pheasant’s eye contain cardiac glycosides and the adonidine alkaloid. Ingestion of the parts of this plant causes vomiting, bloody diarrhea, convulsions, tachycardia, extrasystoles and cardiocirculatory arrest.
